Reflecting the ethos of the United Nations, the SDG Lounge served as a global platform for representatives from Member States to engage in meaningful discussions on issues and solutions related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These conversations spanned critical topics such as food insecurity, gender equality, artificial intelligence, inequality, and global health.
The lounge hosted sessions featuring delegates from countries including the Maldives, France, Sierra Leone, Belgium, Tonga, Chad, Rwanda, Sweden, Somalia, Denmark, Liberia, Senegal, Jamaica, and Norway. High-profile participants included former and current heads of state, such as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, Prime Minister Mia Mottley of Barbados, and European Union President Ursula von der Leyen. This space fostered unscripted dialogues and interactive, in-depth discussions, creating a unique environment for collaboration.
Designed with sustainability and partnership at its core, the SDG Lounge placed the Goals at the forefront of every detail. Eco-friendly, reusable materials were used throughout, and modular furnishings offered adaptability to meet diverse needs. All scenic elements were retained by the United Nations to continue serving the global community, including a custom 50-foot mural now permanently displayed in the Library Reading Room.
Over seven days of programming, the SDG Lounge delivered powerful messages of collaboration, inspiring participants to honor the promise of the SDGs—today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.
